We are about half way between Catskill and Albany NY.
We currently fish from a 2005 Nitro 911 cdc powered by a New 225 Mercury Optimax and Motor Guide 109.
Guide: Mark Mahar has been fishing these waters for25 + yrs. In 2004 decided to become a guide
and return to fishing,along with returning to college to complete a Fine Arts Degree.
The other part of my time is spent between family, building web sites and art. I will also be guideing on a Texas Ranch in the fall.
Depending on weather, depends on when we start striper fishing. Usually by May 1st but there are always exceptions. The run
can last into mid June as the striper can not spawn untill the water temp reaches and stays above 63 degrees for a few days.
We use mainly live Herring for bait as this is the natural forage in this area of the river. Chunk bait Herring is also used when
live become tough to obtain.
We generally chase with chunk bait as the schools are leaving for their return to the Atlantic.
Then its about time for some Carp fishing on the river.
We start Bass fishing around the mid May time also, with catch and release only. There are some great smallmouth stacked up at this
time. Some times we are able to fish largemouth as they are generally developing there bedding patterns.
We do fish other waters in the area such as: Kinderhook Lake, Mohawk River, Upper Hudson River and will ocasionally travel
to South Bay on Lake Champlain.
